Well, family, it’s PRIDE SEASON…and you know what that means… Wait…what does that mean? What popped up in your head when you read that first sentence? What is “Pride Season?” What does “gay pride” or “queer pride” actually mean? It opens a fascinating conversation that offers tons of opportunities for reflection, reflection that I invite you to join me in.

White House Strongly Opposes Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023

For students nationwide, participating in sports and being part of a team is an important part of growing up, staying engaged in school, and learning leadership and life skills. H.R. 734 would deny access to sports for many families by establishing an absolute ban on transgender students, even those as young as elementary schoolers, playing on a team consistent with their gender identity.

One of the things I love about Vegas is there’s always so much to do! When we visit our Desert Oasis, we like to go to concerts and shows if they are accessible and affordable. In early December 2022, we had a trip planned specifically to attend a concert of one of our long-time favorites. We bought the tickets when they first went on sale; we were so excited!

A Star is Born at The Center

A lifelong wish to appear on the Broadway stage was granted to Howard Shapiro, an older adult who counts on the supportive services and resources of the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada. Fulfilling Howard’s wish is Wish of a Lifetime from AARP, a charitable affiliate of AARP that grants life-changing wishes to older adults and inspires people to redefine aging in America.

So Funny it Hurts: The Dynamic Story of Mikalah Gordon

You might recognize Mikalah Gordon from the fourth season of American Idol, where at 16 years old, she was the youngest contestant to reach the top 12. Or it could be from her four-year run on the first national LGBTQ morning show on Channel Q. You may have seen her on shows like “The Tyra Banks Show,” “Living with Fran,” or “The Unit.”

I remember the first time I went to Vegas. I remember the drive into Vegas, coming up the I-15 North over that hill and seeing the lights of the Strip; it was magical. My three favorite guys and I were on an adventure to escape our busy lives back home. And for me, there was a little wishing that just for this brief time, I could also forget my physical disability.

Well, readers, it’s that time again: Spring. With the dawning of a new cycle of seasons, the Winter freeze melts away, and the sweaty musk that is Gay Vegas prepares to pollinate us with pool parties and pheromones. Open the windows, dust off those assless chaps, and put your fur coats back in the closet – along with your “discreet” winter cuddle buddy.

SIX The Musical

If I were to tell the story of King Henry VIII of England, it would most likely be a boring list of a few facts. It would be correct to say that the story, as told from the point of view of his wives, would be a much different and much more interesting story. Set it to hit music, award-winning costumes, and legendary talent, and you have SIX The Musical!

Term and Whole Life Insurance for Individuals Living with HIV

Until recently, individuals who are HIV-positive may have found it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to obtain life insurance coverage. Because of recent medical advances, insurance companies now view HIV in much the same way as many other chronic diseases, leading Guardian to offer life insurance options for individuals living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

The Center Celebrates Transgender Diversity Every Day

Transgender Day of Visibility happens in late March, and it’s a big deal at the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada. “It’s a celebration where we highlight champions of our trans and non-binary community, collaborate with support groups to present opportunities, hold panel discussions on health and wellness, and shine a bright light on transgender rights,” says Andre Martin, Director of Inclusive Programming.
