The first weekend in November, locals and out-of-towners alike converged onto the streets, bars, and venues of Palm Springs to celebrate the city’s annual Pride. The festival had acts like Todrick Hall, the YouTube sensation who got his start on American Idol.
Sappho’s Garden inside the Las Vegas PRIDE Festival held on October 8 at Craig Ranch Park showcased some of our talented local artists. Our sincere thanks go to local artists Gem Jaxx and Liezl Siojo who once again brought their talents to this burgeoning space inside the festival.

When we try to look back at people’s lives and reframe their stories through a more modern lens, it’s often too late to get the information we need or want to tell the story that appears so obvious through context clues or our more modern way of thinking. This is especially true when it comes to the lives and loves of LGBTQ+ individuals, even if that history isn’t too far in the past.
Choreographer Adriana Pierce created the initiative #QueertheBallet to broaden the scope of classical ballet to authentically include LGBTQ+ voices and narratives. #QueertheBallet seeks to “queer” our ballet spaces and explore choreography often absent from ballet stages.
Taylor Hughes, better known as pure xtc, has long since had a musical instrument in her hands. When she was five, she wanted to play drums, and was so relentless on the subject that her parents gave her every other instrument to play instead.
You might recognize the name Kiesza. It’s the stage name of Kiesa Rae Ellestad, the Canadian born singer-songwriter. Her chart-topping hit “Hideaway” from 2014 still gets us dancing today.
Rio has described themselves as a “short frumpy queer kid.” I feel as though they have outgrown this description of themselves and are befitting of something more magnanimous.
Ashley Ray (she/they) is a licensed professional counselor and mental health educator as well as a body positive model and creator/author of a humanistic paradigm shift, they demonstrate the intrinsic understanding that as humans we exist upon a spectrum of being.
