Diverse Children’s Book
Magic Nights Publishing has released “Blake’s Adventure with the Halloween Witch,” a children’s book that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. Written and illustrated by Brandon and Calvin Tate, a married gay couple and proud fathers to two young daughters, this enchanting tale promises to be a significant addition to children’s literature.
Binary Code – Bi Enough
Bi people exist. Now, I’m sure most of you consider that a “well, duh” statement. I mean- we have a whole letter in the main mafia alphabet. Of course, we’re here, and queer people are used to it. But as with any sexuality, there is nuance. And nuance is why I can’t relate to a lot of bisexual stuff. That’s why I can’t say “me too!” when a meme about bisexuals is posted, or wear a shirt labeled “bisexual” to PRIDE. That’s because I’m a different, lesser-known type of bi. I’m biromantic.
A Week of Glamour, Talent, & Purpose!

That’s a WRAP
30 days! 27 Events! However, we went beyond the city limits of Las Vegas with our celebrations, embracing one event in Henderson and one event in Mesquite. The final curtain call was “Over-the-Hump” in Pahrump! The Southern Nevada Association of PRIDE Inc. was spreading the rainbow far and wide this year! SNAPI has been developing relationships within the Las Vegas community and with our neighboring cities for over 40 years.
A Turning Point in Civil Rights
On the fifty-fifth anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, President Joe Biden delivered a heartfelt speech on the significance of this historic event. Speaking on the very ground where the movement began, President Biden emphasized that the Stonewall rebellion was not merely a local incident but a pivotal moment that tested and ignited the soul of the nation.
Revving Up for Success
Travis Shumake wasn’t your typical kid growing up in Phoenix, Arizona. His playground wasn’t the local park, it was the drag strip. The son of celebrated NHRA drivers Tripp and Susie Shumake, Travis’s “average” childhood activities included chatting with racing legends, standing on the starting line, and pretending to do burnouts in the Nitro Funny Car parked in the family garage.
Las Vegas PRIDE OUTside Hikes Tule Springs Loop
The Floyd Lamb State Park features the Tule Springs Loop, which is a free-to-access trail that interconnects with the greater park area. This area features lakes and grass, historic buildings, level trails, both paved and unpaved, and a mix of desert and green scenery and wildlife.
Exclusively Inclusive.
As a kid, I felt a strong connection with my gay friends. The more I learned about their experiences and interests, the more I realized how much we had in common. The larger my circle of LGBTQ+ friends grew, the more I realized how much the LGBTQ+ and Disability communities have in common.
Silver State Equality Announces First Round of Endorsements for Pro-equality Candidates
Silver State Equality, Nevada’s statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights advocacy nonprofit, today announced the endorsement of five pro-equality candidates for Las Vegas City Council, Nevada State Assembly and the Clark County School District Board of Trustees.
Biden-Harris Administration Finalizes Rule to Strengthen Protections for Youth in the Child Welfare System
On April 29th, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), finalized a policy that strengthens protections for youth in foster care by clarifying how states must meet their statutory requirements to appropriately serve LGBTQI+ children in foster care.
Equality Fashion Week 2024
Equality Fashion Week® (EFW) 2024 stood as a beacon of hope and resilience in a world where representation and visibility are increasingly crucial. Launched in 2018, this pioneering event has grown into a significant platform for underrepresented voices within the LGBTQ+ community, advocating for equity, equality, and diversity in a time of increasing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
Binary Code – Gender as a Social Construct: From Fixed Categories to Fluid Identities
Gender fluidity suggests diverse ways of representing oneself in society; anatomical sex has always been defined socially by a gender role and subjectively as gender identity. Judith Butler perfectly explains how sex, gender and sexuality interact; she questioned the gender binary distinction, suggesting that “biology is always given cultural meaning and, therefore, perhaps sex was always gender.”
Celebrating LGBTQ+ Art and Culture
Art, in all its forms, has always been a reflection of the human experience, capturing the essence of society, its struggles, its triumphs, and its dreams. The LGBTQ+ community, with its rich history and vibrant presence, has made significant contributions to the arts, weaving its unique perspectives into the broader cultural tapestry.
Supporting LGBTQ+ Youth
In a world where acceptance and inclusion are paramount, creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth is a critical step toward fostering a supportive and nurturing environment. With rising awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, educators, support groups, and communities play a pivotal role in shaping spaces where young people can express themselves without fear of discrimination, harassment, or violence.
The Neon Museum: Shining Through Time
In the vibrant tapestry of Las Vegas, where every glimmering light tells a story, a narrative of resilience and community is woven within the walls of LGBTQ+ establishments like Le Café and the Red Barn. These sanctuaries of acceptance, though often overlooked, stand as monuments to the courage and defiance of those who dared to challenge societal norms.
Letter from the President
Each June, we celebrate PRIDE by honoring our past and respecting the elders who started our movement at Stonewall and beyond. This June, we will be celebrating at several events. Be sure to check out our calendar and save those dates!
Silver State Equality is Getting Out the Vote
History will remember what we do this election. Will the American people – will Nevadans – rise in support of democracy? Will they speak out in defense of a society that is fair, just and equal for all Americans, and against assaults on LGBTQ+ rights; on reproductive freedoms; on racial injustice? The imperative to take action has never been greater. If we are to advance pro-LGBTQ+ initiatives instead of just blocking an anti-LGBTQ+ agenda, it comes down to this year’s election.

Thank You for Being a Friend
An Instagram post. That’s how I first learned of the Las Vegas Gay Softball League (LVGSL). I wasn’t even living in Las Vegas at the time, but I was still based in Wisconsin, slowly spending more and more time out West as a part of my sports journalism career in the poker industry.
Love Family Group Brings Pride to Mesquite, Nevada
Tucked away near the border of Arizona and Utah, Mesquite, NV, is home to an LGBTQIA+ Non-Profit Organization who is rounding the corner on their 4th Annual Pride Celebration. Love Family got their start back in 2021 after seeing a need for education, unity, and support in their community.
Ron Quinn Human Rights Campaign 2024 Equality Award Honoree
“I Love Ron Quinn! He’s an amazing leader and a wonderful friend.” This quote could be a summation of everyone’s first thoughts of Ron. Ron relocated to Las Vegas in 1991 to assist his father in the family business. It was at this time he attended his first Las Vegas PRIDE Festival at Sunset Park. He recalled, “It was a completely different experience in May as opposed to a Southern California PRIDE. It was HOT.”
Statement from President Joe Biden on Nex Benedict
Jill and I are heartbroken by the recent loss of Nex Benedict. Every young person deserves to have the fundamental right and freedom to be who they are, and feel safe and supported at school and in their communities. Nex Benedict, a kid who just wanted to be accepted, should still be here with us today.
