Magic Nights Publishing has released “Blake’s Adventure with the Halloween Witch,” a children’s book that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. Written and illustrated by Brandon and Calvin Tate, a married gay couple and proud fathers to two young daughters, this enchanting tale promises to be a significant addition to children’s literature.

A Story of Magic and Inclusivity

“Blake’s Adventure with the Halloween Witch” is set against the backdrop of Halloween, the Tate family’s favorite holiday. The story follows young Blake, her sibling Channing, and their two dads on a trick-or-treating adventure that takes an unexpected magical turn. When the Halloween Witch appears, the family’s night transforms into a heartwarming new tradition centered on giving rather than just receiving.

Brandon and Calvin Tate drew from their own experiences and family traditions to create a story that mirrors the diverse, multiracial family dynamics many children experience today. The book’s high-quality illustrations capture the whimsical essence of Halloween, enhancing the narrative with vibrant, engaging visuals.

Promoting Diversity and the Joy of Sharing

“As authors from a multiracial LGBTQ+ family, our mission was to create a book that delights and educates while mirroring the diverse world we live in,” said Brandon Tate. “This book is a celebration of all families and a step towards more inclusive children’s literature. With this book, we hope to encourage children to discover the joy of sharing and to see that sometimes, the best treats are not the ones you keep, but the ones you give away.”

The book’s themes of magic, kindness, and the importance of community and sharing are designed to resonate deeply with children aged 2-10. Its rhythmic, playful language and delightful storyline aim to captivate young readers, making it a perfect addition to any child’s bookshelf.

Representation Matters

“I’ve learned that family is more than just the one you’re born with,” said Calvin Tate. “Seeing a family like ours represented in a children’s book is a significant step towards more diverse children’s literature. We hope this story, inspires other families to embrace and celebrate their uniqueness.”
