By Las Vegas PRIDE Magazine Staff
Making a Difference
Lukas Serrano creates daily impact for the trans community in Las Vegas by embracing his authentic self and using his voice to advocate for those who may not yet feel seen or heard. Through his roles in healthcare and public affairs, he works to dismantle barriers to access, educates providers, and ensures the community receives dignity and respect. Lukas leads by example, especially for trans men, demonstrating that they belong and their experiences are valued.
Priorities
Lukas’s top priorities include access, visibility, and safety for the trans community. He strives to guarantee that affirming healthcare, resources, and opportunities are available. Increasing visibility for trans men, particularly within communities of color, is essential to him, as these groups are often overlooked. Above all, Lukas aims to foster safe spaces where individuals can freely express themselves without fear.

Issues Impacting the Trans Queer Community
The trans queer community faces several significant challenges, including limited access to healthcare, misinformation, stigma, and persistent discrimination. Many still encounter obstacles when seeking gender-affirming care or basic services. There is a pressing need for more education, both in the public sphere and within service systems. Issues concerning mental health, housing instability, and personal safety remain critical areas of concern.
Lukas is passionate about developing community-driven initiatives that directly support trans individuals. He collaborates with community leaders to organize events, such as bingo fundraisers, which raise funds to eliminate healthcare barriers. Additionally, Lukas seeks to expand educational programs, launch visibility campaigns for trans men, and build robust partnerships that deliver resources in an accessible and affirming manner.
Lukas approaches everything with purpose and from lived experience. Having personally felt unseen, he is deeply committed to ensuring others do not have to face the same challenges alone. He is proud of his identity and heritage and is dedicated to making lasting change for both current and future generations.
Lukas wishes to be remembered as someone who opened doors for others, created space where none existed, and tirelessly advocated for his community. He hopes his legacy reflects the power of authenticity and the impact a single voice can have in creating change.

Lukas Serrano
Lukas Serrano is a Hispanic trans man, U.S. Army veteran, and community advocate located in Las Vegas, Nevada. His journey is marked by growth, resilience, and a commitment to helping others embrace their true selves.
Born in Mexico and raised in the United States, Lukas grew up in a religious environment where being different sometimes felt unsafe. He spent years denying his identity and did what was necessary to get by. After high school, Lukas joined the Army and served his country with two deployments to Afghanistan. Although the military provided structure and discipline, it was not a place where he could fully express his identity.
After leaving the military, Lukas began a process of self-discovery. In 2014, he came out as a lesbian, which felt like a significant step, but his journey was not complete. Meeting a transgender man who lived confidently and authentically inspired Lukas, leading him to begin his transition in 2021.
Lukas’s life transformed in ways he never anticipated, turning a personal journey into a mission with purpose. In 2023, he made history as Rey Vaquero Northwest, becoming the first trans man crowned in the Vaquero community. For Lukas, this was more than a title, it meant representation within the Hispanic community, in spaces deeply rooted in culture and tradition. His visibility in that role signaled to others that they, too, belong.
As Director of Public Affairs at the LGBTQ+ Center of Las Vegas, Lukas leads community engagement, advocacy, and public awareness initiatives. His work is informed by over five years in healthcare, where he continues to advocate for expanded, affirming, and respectful access to services.

Lukas Serrano
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Lukas is active in the Las Vegas LGBTQ+ community. He educates, speaks on panels, and creates spaces where people feel seen and heard. Lukas is especially committed to increasing visibility for trans men, who are often overlooked in media and healthcare discussions. He also organizes events, such as bingo fundraisers, to help individuals struggling to access care.
Lukas’s work is rooted in his own experiences. He knows what it is like to question oneself, feel invisible, and navigate systems not designed for him. This drives his mission: to be visible and to improve conditions for those who follow.
Lukas Serrano is dedicated to showing up as his full self and creating space for others to do the same. Through his work in healthcare, his community presence, and the history he has made, Lukas continues to remind others that they are not alone and their stories matter.
