Liezl Siojo: Mosaic Artist and Community Leader / Creative Genius!
By Jim McCoy
Las Vegas has culture! It has Art! It has leaders in both Art and Culture! And I am extremely fortunate to know one such person, Liezl Siojo. We have known each other for almost 2 decades, with our paths crossing through the LGBTQIA+ community, art festivals, galleries, and downtown shenanigans! Her dedication to the arts and to individuals within the Queer Arts community is strong and deep, with a strong commitment.
Liezl, originally from Manila, Philippines, has spent over thirty years in the United States and is now recognized as a prominent local artist in Las Vegas. For more than twenty years, she has explored multiple artistic techniques, viewing art as an expressive language and a medium for personal growth. Liezl’s philosophy encourages artists to experiment with diverse materials, supporting creativity and innovation. She currently facilitates several art groups throughout the greater Las Vegas Valley, promoting artistic development within the community.

Liezl Siojo specializes in mosaic art and owns Art Box by Liezl Siojo, located at Downtown Container Park in Las Vegas. Her studio offers a dedicated space for artists to explore, create, and exhibit their works, representing over 127 local artists in the Las Vegas Valley. The Art Box was among the first galleries established in the eclectic downtown park. It will soon feature Las Vegas’ Smallest Art Gallery, highlighting artists who specialize in miniature canvases under one inch.

Liezl founded the East Fremont Festival of Arts in 2024, a locally curated grassroots festival held quarterly and spanning nearly three blocks of Fremont East. The festival highlights a broad spectrum of artists and designers from Las Vegas and the surrounding areas, with over forty-five participants. Attendees enjoy live music, entertainment, and a selection of festival cuisine, creating a vibrant celebration of local art and culture. The festival is located at the entrance to LV Container Park, where additional galleries and businesses actively participate.

Since 2007, Liezl has also been involved in animal fostering and rescue within the Las Vegas Valley. Both Sushi and Sparkle (artist pets in residence) are rescue animals rehomed to the gallery through her efforts. The animals are always at Art Box by Liezl, located at 707 East Fremont Street, and both provide visitors with warm interactions, bringing joy and affection to everyone who stops by.
I highly suggest that when you have tourists in town, you visit the ART BOX at The Container Park! The location is incredibly original and visually stimulating with art and downtown culture!
