Category Is…Friends of Dorothy

Join us at Velveteen Rabbit for a queer dance party with performances galore and DJ Jaydean making all your dancing queen dreams come true!

During WWII, when being gay was still illegal, gay men would use the term Friends of Dorothy to identify each other. While we no longer need to use euphemisms to discuss sexual orientation, Judy Garland and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz has had a lasting impression on the LGBTQ community at large. There is even lore suggesting her passing was the final straw that lead to the Stonewall riots, which happened the same night. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Judy Garland’s passing, we will be returning to Oz for a night of fun.

Come out for a cup of Pride Punch (non-alcohol available) or a craft cocktail from the Velveteen Rabbit Spring Menu. Throughout the night DJ Jaydean will be playing and talented members of the LGBTQ+ community will be doing surprise performances ♥
