Embracing Self-Love: Creative Ways to Celebrate Yourself

Valentine’s Day often conjures images of romantic dinners, chocolates, and flowers exchanged between couples. However, being single on this day doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the love and joy associated with it. In fact, Valentine’s Day can be an excellent opportunity to celebrate self-love, independence, and the relationships that truly matter.

From the Sticks to the Stacks

Karlyle Tomms is a pen name, a derivative of my birth name. I chose it because my birth name is more common than ticks on a hound’s back. That metaphor fits because I grew up in a four-room house in the sticks of Arkansas. My mother was from the sticks, and my father was from Las Angeles. So, I’m a hillbilly half-breed. I grew up in a fundamentalist church, and I was fourteen years old when Stonewall occurred.

Exclusively Inclusive

While I love wintery things, I can say my physical disability impacts all of them. Some impacts are positive, some create challenges, some cause anxiety, and some have been so upsetting that I wished I could have avoided the season altogether. Remember, I’m not an expert, and I’m only speaking about my own experiences, but to help explain, here are some examples.
