Board of Directors Qualification Guidelines

Las Vegas PRIDE is funded and made possible by the help, love, and support of our community and our sponsors. The Board of Directors is powered by volunteers who give their time and labor to make what we do come to life!

Getting involved is easy – if you are interested, able, and available, please consider connecting with our Board (info@lasvegaspride.org) and attending events to get a taste of what it’s like to be involved. Being involved requires active contribution to ongoing projects and measurable progress on work/assignments that support our efforts.

Several titled roles exist within the Board, each with defined scopes and responsibilities.

Committee Members

First Tier

Term – at will

Requirements – Interest, ability, and availability to support the mission of Las Vegas PRIDE and contribute actively and measurably to ongoing projects, programs, and causes.

Scope – Interested candidates may attend meetings, workshops, and committee meetings and may be added to email threads and other communications about ongoing committee planning.

Associate Board of Directors (Associate Director)

Second Tier

Term – at will to join / renews annually

Requirements – Interest, ability, and availability to support the mission of Las Vegas PRIDE and contribute actively and measurably to ongoing projects, programs, and causes.

Scope – Candidates who have attended Las Vegas PRIDE events, Board Meetings, and Workshops, and who are interested in joining the Board may express their interest to a current Board member. At a Board meeting, a current Board member may nominate the interested individual who may be asked questions by the Board who may vote to accept or reject the nomination.

If approved by a simple majority vote by the Board, individuals joining the Associate Board of Directors will join committee(ies) and is a member of the Board of Directors. Members in Associate Director status do not effect quorum or voting and are held to lose attendance requirements.

Board Members (Director)

Third Tier

Term – 3-year Term beginning/renewing at Annual Meetings

Requirements – Interest, ability, and availability to support the mission of Las Vegas PRIDE and contribute actively and measurably to ongoing projects, programs, and causes. Must have served on the Associate Board for 12 months before eligible for nomination to Director roles.

Scope – Candidates who have served as an Associate Director for 12 or more months and who are interested in joining the Board in a Director role may express their interest to a current Board member. At the subsequent Annual Board meeting, a current Board member may nominate the interested individual who may be asked questions by the Board who may vote to accept or reject the nomination.

If approved by a simple majority vote by the Board, individuals joining the Board of Directors will join committee(ies) and are a member of the Board of Directors. Members in Director status do effect quorum, may vote, and are held to strict attendance requirements

Executive Board Members

Fourth Tier

Term – There are five executive titles: President (2-year term), Vice President (1-year term), Treasurer (1-year term), Secretary (1-year term) and Parliamentarian (1-year term).

Requirement – In order to be elected to the Executive Board, board members must have served for at least 12 months as a Director. They must be in good standing and clearly understand the requirements of the position/title they apply for. Executive Board Members must also meet all requirements of Director role. Executive Directors do effect quorum and vote and are held to strict attendance requirements.

Definitions & Requirements

Attendance – Attendance and active ongoing participation is important to be a successful and contributive member of the organization.

Board Meetings – Public Board Meetings are held monthly and occur on regularly scheduled dates (currently 3rd Wednesdays).

Workshops/Committee Meetings – Planning meetings held regularly and as needed (currently 2nd Wednesdays)

Committees – Executive, Fundraising and Sponsorship, Parade and Festival, Communication and Marketing, Events and Community Involvement.
